I played Oak Meadows a couple of times last week. Not my choice either time, just a coincidence. I do like the fact that it is relatively easy to get to. I am not fond of the first two holes. Both 400 yard par fours, straight and narrow. Nothing but trees on both sides. Tough way to start and at least half your crew is always trying hack out of the trees or find their ball. Not to mention that it seems that the starter is always hurrying you off the tee, just to wait for the foursome in front of you as they also play lumberjacks. After those two holes the course gets much more interesting, and the back nine seems like a different course -- really excellent with lots of turns and twists, rolling hills and water. Sad about their clubhouse - got hit by lightning a couple of years ago and burnt down. They have not rebuilt yet or even torn down the original. It is a sad but spectacular site.
